What Are the World Nomad Games?Every few years, 89 countries send their athletes to Kyrgyzstan to compete in sports you won't find at any other games — horseback archery, eagle hunting, kok-boru (a high-speed team sport played with a goat carcass), traditional wrestling from a dozen different cultures, and ancient strategy games played with sheep bones.
The World Nomad Games are exactly what the name says: the Olympics of nomadic heritage. First held in 2014 on the shores of Lake Issyk-Kul, they've grown into the largest celebration of Central Asian culture on the planet.
6th edition runs
August 31 – September 6, 2026. Opening ceremony in Bishkek, main competitions at Lake Issyk-Kul in Cholpon-Ata.
